As a brand, Thorndale offers so much more than just bags. With years of expert knowledge, family ethos and quality conscious minds, Thorndale understands the fundamental importance of British manufacturing.

Made with devotion and years of experience, Thorndale offers the best of British quality craftsmanship to be enjoyed for many years to come.

From humble beginnings in 1957 the roots of Thorndale have always remained in the heart of the UK.

Established from the back room of a small shop, our founders, husband and wife owned one small sewing machine and were self-taught in working with specialist materials such as waxed cotton and heavyweight fabrics. Utilising their newly found skills they provided the local area with premium products for work and travel. Our founders then went on to open their doors to manufacture for other clients and soon their business grew to where it stands today: one of the largest independent textiles manufacturers in the UK.

For over 60 years we have been manufacturing in the UK then in 2016, with new leadership our mission was to expand our online presence and rejuvenate the Thorndale collection by taking a modern approach to what was a classically British heritage brand. A dedicated team was introduced to Thorndale to share the vision and Gina Wilkes was brought in to oversee the brands expansion. Despite new branding and designs, Thorndale pays homage to its roots in choice of fabrics and traditional techniques.

We responsibly handcraft all our bags at our own factory in Staffordshire, England. With a skilled team of machinists, we focus on creating ethical, highly functional products that are built to last. With no compromise on aesthetic, quality and practicality is at the forefront of ours design.

By using premium wax canvas and hardwearing leather, the unique characteristics to our fabrics mean that each bag ages beautifully, telling the stories of all your travels and adventures over the years.

Today, Thorndale still runs alongside the thriving manufacturing business, which is now one of the largest textiles manufactures in England. However, due to growth in the company Thorndale is no longer taking a back seat.
